Brand Website vs Retailer PDP for In-Store QR Codes

One of the most sensitive decisions in an in-store QR campaign is where the scan should take the shopper. Brand teams often want to send shoppers to their own website because it gives them control over content, storytelling and data. Retailers often prefer the journey to stay within their own channel, especially if the shopper is standing in their store.

A brand website can be useful for rich education, setup content, campaign storytelling or product ecosystems. It may offer more flexibility than a retailer product page. But it can also create retailer concern. If the shopper leaves the retailer journey, they may be exposed to other channels, direct sales or a buying path that does not support the store.

A retailer PDP is safer from a channel perspective. It keeps the shopper close to the retailer's product information, price, availability and purchase route. The drawback is that PDPs are not always designed for in-store education. They may be long, e-commerce-led and not optimised for someone standing in front of a physical display.

The best answer is often neither a generic brand homepage nor a basic retailer PDP as the first destination. A controlled retail experience can sit in between. It can educate the shopper, answer product questions, capture engagement and then route interested shoppers to the retailer PDP when they are ready to continue. This gives the brand a better content experience while respecting the retailer's channel.

For product-level QR codes, the destination should match the product in front of the shopper. A generic brand site forces the shopper to search again. A retailer PDP may be useful at the final stage, but it may not explain the product clearly enough. A product story or comparison flow can bridge that gap.

MyPlayer is designed for this middle layer. It lets brands create retailer-safe content journeys that can direct shoppers to approved purchase paths. That means QR codes can support the retailer rather than leak the shopper out of the store journey.
